West Oakland has emerged as a vital hub in the international Industrial Arts Movement, which is re-inhabiting the city’s industrial infrastructure and deploying its tools to new ends. Often overlooked behind warehouse doors, a diverse cluster of new organizations is exploring a shift from individual creative enterprise towards monumental collaborative projects operating at social scales.
